Day 7 of NaBloPoMo! Today’s prompt is Describe a moment you felt at total peace

It’s dusk. I’ve been out on the water for a few hours, paddling across the lake from our campsite and exploring the outer edges of Bishop Lake. I’m yards away from the swimming area, and the shrieks coming from the new inflatable jump island have subsided as the last swimmers make their way back to their blankets and picnic tables to pack up for the day. I stretch out on my kayak and gaze at the twilight sky. The water is calm except for the occasional ripple of a jumping fish or turtle that pokes it’s head through the surface.

After a moment I paddle towards what looks to be an island of sorts, and circle around the back between the island and the shoreline. The water is very shallow, I can see the sandy bottom less than a foot below the surface among the lily pads and water lilies. The sun is setting. I spend the next 20 minutes or so just floating, as a gentle wind rustled the leaves of the trees and the birds began their evening serenade.

I could have stayed here for hours.
