Fly Like an Eagle

Nov 8, 2018

Day 8 of NaBloPoMo and I’m still in the game! Today’s prompt is “If you could have a superpower, even for one day, what would it be and why?”

What would it be like to fly?

How would it feel to soar across the United States, the Midwest, the cornfields of Iowa and the plains of South Dakota, into Wyoming and land gently atop Devil’s Tower? I’d walk across its rocky surface that I’ve seen only from Google Earth, before taking off again up into the clouds.

Fly along the coastlines, East or West. On a hot summer day as the white-capped waves lap at the beaches.

Or to fly over the Grand Canyon, swooping down and skimming the Colorado River with your feet, then back up, skirting around the rock formations as the golden sun dips below the horizon?

Across the hot, windy desert, over the perfect ripples in the dunes, untouched.

How about Manhattan, at night? Millions of city lights, surrounding the long, rectangular darkness of Central Park.

Across the ocean, passing an occasional cruise ship or freighter. Catching a glimpse of dolphins. A whale?

So much to be seen..

A full day and night of exploring before landing in my front yard, in my small town subdivision. The breeze moves my bedroom curtains as a reminder of the winds that carried me on my journey.

  1. Hi Kathleen–I was just wondering. I wonder how much time it would take to fly? Knowing my luck I would run into things, but I was wondering how much faster it might be? (I would also hope the learning curve might not be too painful.) Just being somewhat silly, but it often pops into my head with the ability to fly.

    1. Haha, I thought of that too! I wrote my post like I toured the whole continent in a day, so I must have been really cruising! LOL Hey, they have jetpacks, maybe someday we’ll get to experience it!
