Good Morning on this sunny February Saturday! I’m once again SO grateful for the sun and blue skies. (You will often hear me go on about this, by the way.) We are expecting 43 degrees here in Metro Detroit and 46 tomorrow! Such a welcome relief after the weeks of temps in the teens and below zero wind chills. I’m hoping this will melt a lot of the ice we ended up with from the Great Water Main Break of 2026.
Last night I went out and had a fire in the backyard. It was so nice to feel the heat and get a preview of camping days ahead. We are getting low on firewood and I am sadly reminded that our silver maple in the front yard is doing pretty poorly and will likely have to come down soon. It’s huge, likely planted when our house was built, 86 years ago. Not something I want to have to do, I LOVE trees, especially the older ones. But I also want to avoid any potential damage.
I hope you are having a lovely Valentine’s Day! Bill and I don’t do much in the way of Hallmark Holidays. But we do acknowledge it. I don’t need chocolate, flowers die, and I’d rather spend our money building our South Dakota dream. We discussed it over coffee today and that made my day in itself. <3
Today we are going to Darana Dragway for the Snow Drags! I hope the weather allows for some good racing. It’s a dragstrip that they made into an ice track to race snowmobiles. This is the first snowmobile racing event we have had in this area for some time, so I’m super excited. I’m glad we can at least do this, as I’m afraid our riding season might be over. There are several days of 40s and rain the the forecast. Fingers crossed we can get in at least one more trip.
Sunday I have dance practice with the Monroe Midnight Riders. We have a fundraising event coming up on the 21st and I have to work on my costume. My persona is a prairie hearth witch, nodding to our property out west.. I found some cowboy boots and I have a brown and black witch’s hat on order. Other than that I’ve been collecting pieces that are earth tone colors, browns, beige, green. It’s coming together. I’ll share pics when it’s ready.
And of course, what would a weekend be it I didn’t have work to catch up on, so I’ll have to fit that in somewhere.
