Lately, I’ve had an increase in ideas floating around in my head (picture a flickering light bulb), excited because I typically stumble over what to write, staring at a blank screen. Last night, my organizational tendencies took over, as they often do, and I went back through notebooks and Word docs that have been living in my laptop.
In need of a new process, I went back to the drawing board and consulted the almighty Google for a new tool. I currently use Evernote, and I love it for an everyday “information repository” but I wasn’t crazy about the interface for daily writing. I wanted something that was easy to use, provided online storage, and an Android app so I could access my library of content from my phone or tablet.
A search for “online journaling” brought up several entries for Penzu, in which I am writing this blog post right now. So far I love it! In fact, I’m very tempted to just fork over the $19/per year right now for the Pro version, which provides a plethora of additional features.
I love the interface, lots of screen real estate for writing, auto capture of your word count, searchability, email writing/journaling reminders, even version control and tagging. Cool stuff.

I’ve been using Penzu for about a year and a half now and I love it! I purchased the Pro version at the beginning of this year–it was on sale for $12, so you might want to give it a few months before you purchase it, just in case! It has a Classroom version which I’d like to use but haven’t tried yet. I love that I can download it to Word or as a pdf file. Awesome!
I see NaBloPoMo…..do you do NaNoWriMo?!
