Good Morning on this snowy Sunday! I’m glad these coffee shares are virtual on a day like today. We are near the top of this ungodly snow band that’s making it’s way across the United States. Forecasts say we are in for 2″ – 4″ today. Our official Weekend Coffee Share by Natalie is on hiatus this weekend, but thank you for stopping by!
I’m having some Starbucks Vanilla Lavender coffee. The jury is still out, however. You can taste the lavender and I’m not sure I like it with coffee. Tea, yes. I also have some donut shop coffee that is supposed to taste like Twix and Snickers. It does, kind of.
I slept in WAY too late this morning but I guess I needed it since I don’t get much during the week. I hate that I wasted a portion of the day but I’m learning that sleep is way more important than I thought it was!
Wednesday we got hit with snow and it made for a really dicey commute to work. I was grateful to be able to switch my onsite day and went in Friday. The roads were bone dry after being doused with salt but the high was 2F. I was happy to see some coworkers onsite that I wasn’t expecting and we walked to the nearby Firebird Tavern for lunch. I had this amazing ham and cheese sandwich with truffle fries. I wish I’d have gotten a pic of the outside but we were literally scurrying to and from our building.

Before I left work, I went up to the 16th floor to get a look at the Detroit River, to see how much of it has frozen over. I was able to catch the Judy Lamarsh, a light icebreaker from the Canadian Coast Guard.
Saturday night I made my broom for the Monroe Midnight Riders group I recently joined. The handle is from a tree of heaven sapling I cut down from my wildflower garden, and the reeds are from IKEA that I bought probably 25 years ago. Didn’t know what to do with them, but had to have them. LOL I cut some down to the proper length and glued them with a hot glue gun. I like how it turned out! Today was dance practice, but it was cancelled due to the weather. I’m excited to see our schedule for the year. September and October will be super busy with Halloween events I’d have wanted to go to anyway so that works out!
Today seemed like a good day to make homemade tomato sauce. I have several bags of frozen tomatoes from my garden, and fresh basil and oregano from my plants. However I just realized I have no pasta so off to the store I go sometime today. Ugh.
Other than that I have some work to catch up on, books to read and things to do around the house. Bill is in the laundry room snaking the drain as we had a backup, right on the heels of the water main break fun we had to deal with. It’s always something.
Welp, I hope you are staying warm if it’s freezing where you are! Have a great week and I look forward to our next catch up!

How did the tomato sauce turn out? I bet it was delicious. My tomatoes and fresh herbs are long gone. I only have garlic, green onion, and different kinds of berry jams left from my garden.
Actually, not that great. LOL In my haste last fall, I just diced the tomatoes and put them in freezer bags. (skin on) So when I cooked the sauce, the skin peeled off. Would have been better had I blanched them (I think?) to get the skin off. Then I cooked it too long most of the liquid evaporated. I went to the store for pasta and forgot to grab a can of tomato sauce. I had a jar of pizza sauce in my pantry, so I added that. Dinner was…. different.
