On Tuesday I met up with my BFF to walk Huroc Park, in Flat Rock. I’d heard of it but had never been there, and she was gracious to allow me to add it to my list of ten new parks/trails hiked in 2025. I’m still very behind.

A rain shower had just passed through and a plethora of birds scattered the grounds and roadway.

Getting started, we crossed the bridge going over the Huron river. On the fence were dozens of padlocks – a common practice knows as “love locks” where couples write their initials and/or name on the lock, lock it to the bridge and toss the key into the water.

I wonder how difficult that dam would be to just kayak over.

Not a great pic of a seagull, but all I had was my phone.

The bridge leads you to the walking path, and on our first round, we came upon this creepy looking building. It reminded me of the 1980s movie, Prom Night.

It’s hard to see from this pic, but the lights were on in this room, shining through the windows missing boards.

At the far end of the park, Motor City Canoe Rental has an outpost along the Huron River. Love the sign on the back of the bus.
I didn’t get a pic but Atwater Street Tacos is nearby, along with a Dairy Queen!

The park is a short loop, about .6 of a mile, but also links to a bike path that will take you out to Oakwoods Metropark. Neat little place to visit!
