That Familiar Place

In 7th grade, we had Read In.  Every day we were to bring a book to 6th hour and read for the first 15 minutes of class. The entire room was silent and I loved getting lost in whatever book I had with me. It was always difficult to tear myself away from the book when time was up and focus on my favorite subject: math.  (sarcasm)

Tonight I set aside to read, which I’d mentioned in an earlier post. I’d been looking forward to it all week, and though I didn’t get as much time as I wanted, it was so very nice, so very familiar to stretch out on the couch with a Stephen King novel like I used to do so many years ago.

Dr. Sleep is my current read, and like most of his works, I was glued until my eyes started to sting and I knew it was time to turn in. I’m happy I allowed myself back into that familiar place.

Today my mom would have been 85.  She was with me today, and left me a few signs, letting me know.  She loved to read, also, and I’m grateful to inherit that love and take some time out today in her honor.
