National Black Cat Day!

National Black Cat Day!

I couldn’t let today go by without a tribute to the darling little snot ball of fur and teeth that we call our Larry.  On August 29th, 2024, Bill found him under the guard shack at his place of employment, where Larry’s mom had delivered he and six siblings.  Bill’s daughter, who also works with him, extracted Larry from underneath the guard shack and we thought he was a girl.  A trip to the vet would rule otherwise.

I brought him home briefly before we left for our camping trip. It was Labor Day weekend, we had camping plans, which now included a kitten.

He adapted perfectly.

I call this one his Tinder profile picture.

He allows us to trim his nails and apply his nail caps, as long as a Churu stick (lickable cat treat) is involved.

He’s become an experienced co-pilot, and settles right in on our way to the campgrounds.

He insisted on checking the structural quality of our new wall-mounted coat rack.

He is CRAZY smart.  He will study on everything you do. My sister is convinced he was a human in a past life.  He watched my husband turn a doorknob, then went up to it and, with both paws, I kid you not, tried to turn the doorknob.

He LOVES the treadmill.

He can be a snot, but he’s my boy.

I also want to remember my beloved Ebony, whom I had from 1991 to 2009. He was the epitome of a perfect cat, and I miss him every day, along with his brother Kilo.

  1. Your cats are gorgeous. I still miss our little black cat so much. There is something special about our black female friends.

    • Thank you. I wish Larry was a bit closer to Ebony’s temperament, but I do love that little butthead.

  2. Awww…such sweet kitties! I cannot believe I missed National Black Cat Day! Please don’t tell my beloved black cat, Cer, she’ll be so mad at me 😉

  3. Larry sounds like such a character — smart, curious, and full of personality. I love how he’s adapted so well, from camping trips to treadmill time! Your love for him and the memories of Ebony and Kilo truly shine through this post.

    • It’s so funny how our pets have different personalities, like people. He’s kind of a butt sometimes, but I love him so.
