The last week of September we spent out in the land of our dreams, South Dakota.  I mentioned in a previous post a Facebook group called Southeast Michigan Rocks, a rock painting group.

You’ve likely heard of rock painting. You paint rocks with designs or inspirational messages and leave them “out in the wild” for others to find. I thought it would be a neat experiment to leave rocks from here to South Dakota and back and see what happened. In the weeks before we left, we painted upwards of 20 rocks and left them in various places.

I was happy to see on the Facebook page that several had been found and those kind folk played along and posted pics to our Facebook page.

MSU – left in Avoca, Iowa at the Wings Travel Center.  Found by a family returning from Florida en route to Nebraska!

Love from MI – left at the Iowa 80 truck stop.  Found by a couple from Illinois!

Don’t take life for Granite – found at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Deadwood.  Made it’s way to Sioux Falls, almost 400 miles east.

I hope the rest turn up, eventually. It will be cool to see where they end up. It’s relaxing, therapeutic and a nice creative break, something I don’t let myself do often. I’ll likely continue over the winter and have a plethora of rocks to hide in the spring. Check Facebook for a rock painting group in your area. Or, check out The Kindness Rocks Project for more details.
